Makita MAC2400 Qualty And Performance
The Makita MAC2400 at $297 isn't cheap compared to other air compressors in this class. The difference is quality and performance. The nearest direct competitor is the Ingersoll Rand DD2T2 at $447. For the money the Makita 2400 air compressor is the hands down winner.
The Makita air compressor delivers quality performance, durable for day to day on the job duties. Two outputs for running power nailers such as brad guns, finish nailers and framing nailers. The Makita 2400 is not meant to be used for high CFM air tools such as sanders and grinders which require more air and run time to complete a job or task.

Big rubber feet also help prevent transmitting vibration to whatever it's sitting on, so no more vibrating boards. Because of the big bore and stroke of the piston the MAC2400 runs cooler and at half the RPM of most competitive units with a much increased service life. Advertised as 100% duty cycle for the Makita Big bore 2400 but should not be considered accurate. No compressor is designed to run a 100% duty cycle. The risk of running too high a duty cycle could cause premature damage to the pump and shorten service life.
Makita's 2.5HP air compressor is equipped with Makita's Big Bore engineered pump cylinder and piston for higher output for two nailers. The 4.2 gallon twin-stacked tank sustains an operating pressure of 130 PSI, and delivers 40PSI (4.8 CFM) and 90 PSI (4.2 CFM), enough for two nailers. Just make sure you check the CFM reqirements of any air tool you want to use to ensure that it will work properly.
All Makita Big Bore Air Compressors are oil lubricated and equipped with large automotive style filters for increased air intake and greater efficiency. The low AMP draw reduces instances of tripped breakers and voltage drop that can cause premature motor failure. Oil drain and oil sight glass conveniently located for easy access and maintenance. Cons
Because of the cast iron construction and the use of metal instead of plastics as in the cheap junk these are more heavier, 77 LBS. It isn't a serious issue as you cant have it both ways. The machine is built to last and the weight goes with it.
Air filter located on the side is not protected so be careful loading or unloadng, during transportation tie down to prevent shifting.
Pros
The frame wraps around and protects most of the important stuff, so there are no lines, wires, etc. waiting to be snagged. Makita also puts a NICE molded rubber handle on it that doesn't shift or move one bit. Low amp draw at 12.5 amps.
The finned discharge tubing on this thing is fantastic, just warm to the touch, if you've never had your hand seared like a steak after touching discharge tubing on a compressor, you haven't truly felt pain.
Quiet: An ouput of only 79db is very quiet for an air compressor

"I have a craftsman compressor that has much more horsepower, bigger tank and a higher cfm, but it only serves as a noise maker and can not keep up with the Makita. The craftsman will be in my next garage sale."
"This is a fantastic value at $300. Extremely solid unit and very quiet. Its heavy, yes, but I find it to be still quite portable. Did I say it was quiet? Recovery time is also excellent. I would match this against any other 4 gallon tank for the money. "
"First, understand that the Makita MAC2400 is not a toy. Solid steel construction, a protective cage and durable components bulk this up into the heavy weight class. That said, the unit is exceptionally quiet and very durable. From the time I purchased it, I have done nothing but add the oil, turn it off and on, and drain the tank. "
